The speaker went on for several minutes about how well provisioned and unsinkable the engine-powered life boats are. After the long speech, he ended with a very brief, "The crew will leave the ship in an inflatable raft.". Ross and I got so tickled thinking about the poor crew floating aimlessly in their meager inflatable rafts that we were laughing behind our hands and trying hard not to disrupt the rest of the drill.
When we got l back to our rooms, our luggage had arrived and we started unpacking.
The captain announced that we were expected to have windy weather tonight and to expect some pitching so we decided to take some dramamine II immediately.
Before we came aboard, Ross learned there was going to be a sushi bar onboard and had his mind set on having a few pieces each night as a snack to hold us until our late seating dinner at 8:30pm. The sushi bar opens at 6pm, and we went at 5:45pm, but there was already a line and we couldn't get a seat right away. We waited for about an hour in the Starlite lounge until there was an open spot at the bar.
We only has a few pieces of sushi, but they were very good. The specials were especially well presented. I had yellowtail tar-tar garnished with caviar and a wasabi broth. It was quite spicy. Ross had white fish Nobu style, which was 3 very thin slices drizzled with a vinegar sauce.
A lovely couple from Tokyo sat next to us at the bar. The wife was astounded because we had ordered octopus. She said most Americans won't eat it. We said we loved trying new foods and they encouraged us to visit Tokyo.
After sushi we unpacked a bit more until dinner. My appetizer was the Forest Mushroom Tart. It was a puff pastry crust covered with wild mushrooms, which was delicious. (Sorry the pictures are so poor. The lighting was very dim in the main dining room.)

Ross had a shrimp appetizer.

Next we had a wonderful crab and Brie cheese soup. It was unusual, but very tasty. The salty, almost sour flavor of the Brie paired nicely with the sweet crab.

For an entrée, Ross had a perfectly cooked veal chop.

I ordered a half portion of the Alaskan rock fish. It was a little chewy and I wonder if ordering the half size portion caused it to get overcooked. The mashed potatoes were a little cold, but the spinach was perfect. It was tender, well seasoned and by far the best thing on my plate.

For dessert Ross had the "Peanut Butter Decadence Trio" and enjoyed all of it. I only liked the center item which was whipped peanut butter coated in a soft chocolate shell.

When our waiter asked what I wanted, I ordered the homemade cookies. Our waiter paused just long enough before saying, "Of course," to make me think I had made a mistake. I thought maybe the cookies weren't going to be very good. However, 2 of the 3 were excellent.

I soon figured out why our waiter had acted so odd about the cookies. As we were leaving we saw waiters offering the cookies from trays to all of the diners after dessert, so people probably don't usually order them.
After dinner both Ross and I were exhausted. We think the Dramamine II was making us especially sleepy and we were thankful our suitcases had been stowed under the bed and the sheets turned down by the time we returned to our room.

I doubt we would have had the energy to push our not-quite-unpacked-yet suitcases off the bed before we collapsed into a sound sleep.
