On Board

We took a quick taxi trip to the pier and were immediately welcomed by Crystal staff who whisked our luggage away and directed us to a waiting area where we were given our boarding group number. We met two delightful woman named Sandy and Caroline who had been on many cruises and told us that if we weren't happy with this cruise then there was nothing that would make us happy.

We waited 30 min before out group was called and we were quickly checked in and given our room cards. We stopped so our boarding photo could be taken and then headed straight up the gangplank. It was so exciting to actually be on the ship. Someone greeted us right away and pointed the way to the main ding room where lunch was being served. As soon as we were seated, we were handed complimentary flutes of champagne.

We asked to split the appetizer which was a seafood plate with 3 dipping sauces. Our waiter said that the plate was very very small and that we should get our own. Of course. The serving was in fact very small, including about 3 small shrimp, 1 mussel, and about 2 tablespoons of crab salad. Note to self: Appetizers are not to be split.

The crab salad was amazing with an herby lemon flavor. If there was mayonnaise in it, there wasn't much. The mussel has a delightful rich and savory flavor, while the shrimp were unremarkable.

Lunch for Shannon was fresh Alaskan salmon with buttermilk mashed potatoes and vegetables. The salmon was fantastic.

Ross had the cob salad which was good, but was dressed a bit too early. The avocados were excellent.

We spent a little time exploring the ship and sat in a lounge to read Reflections, the daily itinerary. Our room was available about 2:45pm, although our luggage was not there yet.

It is a small, but very nice room.

Our fridge was pre-stocked with several beverages.

We could see Alcatraz from our balcony.

We spent some time on the balcony and are currently waiting to start the life boat drill.

[We will be setting sail shortly after the life boat drill and I will not be able to post again until we reach Victoria, BC on Monday.]
